My challenge will be to communicate that commitment and passion in ways that appeal to an increasingly diverse pool of customers.” These category leaders have endured and thrived because of their unrelenting commitment of innovation to anglers. “Especially with the Plano and Frabill brands that have contributed so much fishing joy to so many generations. “I’m genuinely excited to be continuing my work in the industry I’m so passionate about,” says Russell. ![]() Additionally, he has served the greater recreational fishing community as a member of the American Sport Fishing Association’s (ASA) Communications and ICAST committees. A well-traveled lifelong angler, Russell has an outstanding history of success in working with influential, market-leading companies – most recently with Shimano America and Wright & McGill/Eagle Claw Fishing. Like many other key Plano Synergy team members, Russell lives for the outdoors. Plano is the industry leader in the very tackle storage and management category they helped create in 1952, while Frabill has engineered premium, trusted gear for open water and ice fishing for nearly 80 years. Working under Plano Synergy VP of Marketing, Pete Angle, Russell will lead critical marketing activities in support of the company’s established Frabill and Plano brands, including oversight of product promotions, catalog and asset creation, trade show representation, advertising, social media, editorial outreach and more. “By selling the archery and hunting accessories brands to GSM Outdoors, already a leader in the hunting and outdoors industry, we have created great brand alignment for both companies, which allows each of us to play to our own unique strengths.Grand Prairie, TX ( July, 7, 2017) – Plano Synergy, a leading outdoor company providing thousands of individual hunting and fishing products across 14 major brands, has announced the hiring of Chris Russell in the position of Marketing Manager – Fish. “This acquisition allows Pure Fishing to continue to build upon its industry-leading position within the fishing industry, something that remains a priority for the company,” said Harlan Kent, Pure Fishing CEO. Perhaps, this is splendid news, for those who feared that their favorite brands of gear might be lost in the proverbial shuffle. It now appears that Pure Fishing has no plans of jumping into multiple sectors of the outdoor retail industry, instead opting to maintain its focus on fishing-related equipment. This provides some clarity for those questioning the intent and direction of Pure Fishing, which has continued to expand at a rapid pace. Meanwhile, Pure Fishing will retain such brands as Plano and Frabill. Some of the most notable of these brands included Wildgame Innovations, Flextone, Ameristep, Barnett, and Avian X. Under this latest deal, GSM Outdoors agreed to purchase all hunting-related brands acquired by Pure Fishing/Sycamore Holdings, in their take-over of Plano Synergy. However, almost simultaneously, Sycamore Partners relinquished control of certain brands acquired during their latest purchase. It was recently announced that the sale of Plano Synergy to Sycamore Partners was officially completed on April 16th. Now, additional news has broken, surrounding this acquisition, much of which sheds additional light on Pure fishing’s intent. Previously, we had detailed the plans of Pure Fishing’s parent company, Sycamore Partners, to purchase Plano Synergy, along with all of the company’s assets. ![]()
